Day 110, Reflection From Across the Street.

IMG_7298.jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

This was really cool to see, although it is not as strong on the picture, but this is the reflection from the building across the street onto the walls of this building. It just made the whole block glow. It was really cool to see.

Thanks for looking.

Day 109, The Worst Place To Plant Trees Possible, Riverside, CA

IMG_7293 (1).jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

I was walking during lunch again, and I came across this. It is heavily adjusted in Aperture. I could not get it to expose right. Probably for the same reason that the trees are bare when everything else around here is blooming and blossoming, the trees are planted in a space that is constant shade. There is no chance for these guys to ever get any sunlight. Riverside is a small town, this is the kind of thing that happens in New York or somewhere there are so many buildings that the only thing to do is plant them anyway.

Day 108, Brick Building, Market Street, Riverside, CA

IMG_7297.jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

OK, back to jury duty and a nice walk during lunch. I remember when they built this office building, right across from the old Fox Theater. The contractor did a bad job with the brick facade and they kept falling off. Finally they fixed it. I want to come back when it is either overcast or, early morning to get away from that shadow.

Thanks for Looking.

Day 107, The Depart, Santa Clarita, Stage 7 2008 Tour of California

IMG_7776.jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

So the depart for the last stage of the Tour of California is a giant photo op, but not for me. You can't quite see it, but there are about 40 pro photographers in front of the "World Champions". The current and former WC's were up for a pic at the start. I got to see and meet, George Hincapie, a really nice guy, Levi, Chris Horner, Mario Cipollini, Chechu Rubiera, Jonathan Vaughters and many more. Here are the last of the pics that I will force on you from the Tour of California. If you are out on the west coast next year when the tour happens, you can't go wrong with a depart. There are plenty of chances to interact with the riders. If you speak a language other then English, you will be better received. I had a nice chat with Chechu just because I spoke spanish. The last pic was of Astana rider Brajkovic and was taken right after the I took the pic of the WCs, he just wanted to get going and he had to sit tight in the middle of the start pack while all of the photo ops happened.

Mario Cipollini, out of retirement.

Day 106, Bikes From The 2008 Tour of California

IMG_7737.jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

Here are some shots from Sunday in the AM. It is really cool that you can tour the "pit" area before the start and interact maybe with some of the riders. Here are the bikes from Astana (Trek), CSC (Cerevelo), Rock Racing (De Rosa) and the Mavic support vehicle. It is a thing of beauty to see these machines. I have been in love with bikes ever since my parents gave me my first one, a little red Schwinn with a banana seat. That bike got passed down through all of my siblings (there were 6 of us) and my parents still have it. I want to restore it and I do know someone who does that.

My daughters are growing up with a similar love of Bicycles. They see me obsess about my Cannondale Synapse and they are riding Electras. I have a red Electra 3 and my wife has a pink Electra 3 that we ride with them. I just picked up a white 16" Electra for my youngest. It has red roses on it and she will go nuts when she gets it for her birthday.

Day 105, Levi Leipheimer is in the Leader Jersey

IMG_7709.jpg, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

Here are the some shots from the Podium for Stage 6. Go Levi! There is also the stage winners and a shot of Paolo Bettini, the World Champ and 3rd place on the stage. When you see the size of these guys live, it becomes real obvious that the Clydesdale class that I will always ride in will never, and I mean never, be fast like these guys. They have the legs of a thoroughbred and the arms of a chess champ. I have to spot some of these guys at least 80 lbs. I guess it is easy to see why climbing kicks my butt.

Day 104, Tour Of California, Santa Clarita, My View At The Finish Line

Here we are at the finish line of the Tour of California on the penultimate day of racing. Bob Roll is interviewing Levi Lephiemer who is the overall leader. If you know anything about cycling, then this is really a great thing to go see. The finish line was amazing. My wifes' Aunt Kathy scored me access to the VIP tent, and this was my view. I hope you will forgive me, but this will take a few days to get through. I took these over The end of the Saturday race and the depart on Sunday morning, Thanks Aunt Kathy, again from the VIP tent.

Todays post will be the Finish Line. There is Bob Roll, who wouldn't say hi, and then the VS camera man, who blocked my prized position. He was there to get the finish. I found this harder then I thought. I had on the fastest glass in my bag, a 1.4 50mm lens. I got a lot of fuzzy pics. The worst were some other pics of Bob interviewing the stage winner, who was later penalized 20 seconds for using the team motor car to rejoin the race after he had flatted on the circuit.

Bob who wouldn't say "Hi".

Day 103, Fox Theater Restoration

Fox Theater Restoration, originally uploaded by solostandfound.

I previously blogged about the restoration of the old Fox Theater in downtown Riverside. During lunch while I have been on jury duty, I walked down to try to get some pics of where the project is. As you can see, they have gutted and are working on the retrofitting and foundation work, I will be surprised if they finish this year. Note on the pics the still to be addressed cupola roof which appears to be close to a collapse. It would seem that to work on the project for safety that would have to address that. Perhaps it only cosmetically bad.

I will visit again in a month our so to see if there is any progress visible from the street. I suspect that there will be little to be seen from the street.

Day 102, Glass Block in an Office Building, Riverside, CA

This is not my first run attempt at posting to a blog from my iPhone. I did not take this pic on my iPhone, but I am getting around the inability to post directly with the blogger interface using Flickr.  There is of course the ability to post via email. You can upload to Flicker in the same way. Then you can post to your preset blogs from Flickr. I normally post directly from Flickr as it is and use the blogger tools to make it look like I want. I use Flickr as the repostitory for the images.  Then if I am on the road (as I often am) I can post from anywhere directly from Flickr.

Downside, The Flickr blog tool does not let me add the outtakes, or cut and past the EXIF data. It probably could, but that would mean two flickr pages opened and I am too lazy.  I also want it to be as easy as possible so that I can use my iPhone to post.  The obstacles there were not anticipated.  It would be nice if there was a more robust blogging tool in flickr that would have buttons for including EXIF data and additional pictures.  Maybe that is something that can be done later.

I want to get to a purely iPhone run blog, but without cut and paste, this would be tough. I, like so many out there, was really excited to see the iPhone SDK released. I wish I was a coding junkie, because there are a few apps that I would write. If the flash situation gets worked out, I know that my brother will be well employed. So, in the next few weeks, watch for my new blog ilostandfound, a blog that will be done as much as possible from the iPhone and about the iPhone.

Oh, by the way, I took this in an office building in downtown Riverside while I was out walking during my lunch break from the a long jury duty trial.  The best part?  I am doing my duty and that is nice.  The worst part?  I am in sales and this 7 weeks away is going to be tough to overcome this year.

Day 100, Clock Detail, Riverside, CA

Wow, Day 100!  It seemed appropriate to post a clock, but I liked this detail from the clock better.  That is what this is all about, pictures that I like.  It is school for me, a training ground for a future side business, or maybe just a really cool hobby.  But it is a little expensive, so if I can do this as a side business and be able to pay for the gear that I want, this would be double plus.

Day 99, Dosan Ahn Chang-Ho Statue, Riverside, CA

Another of the diversity statues that are placed down town Riverside.

From Wikipedia

An Chang-ho, or Ahn Chang-ho, pen name Dosan, (November 91878 - March 101938) was a Korean independence activist and one of the early leaders of the Korean-American immigrant community in the United States. He established the Young Korean Academy (흥사단; 興士團) and was a key member in the founding of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai. An is one of two men believed to have written the lyrics of the aegukga, the South Korean national anthem. He was also the father of Hollywood actor Philip Ahnand Philip was honored with a Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 1984. Susan Ahn Cuddy is the oldest daughter of Ahn Chang Ho. She is the first Asian woman in the United States Navy and the first Asian woman to serve as a Gunnery Officer in all US Forces. She worked for Navy Intelligence and was the first Korean American to work for the National Security Agency. She received a Woman of the Year Award in California in 2003 and The American Courage Award from the Asian American Justice Center in Washington DC in 2006.

Ahn was born in 1878 in KangsoPyeongan province, in present-day South PyonganNorth Korea. In 1896, Ahn moved to Seoul where he attended Gusae Hakdang, a missionary-sponsored school and eventually converted to Christianity over a period of four years.

In 1902, Ahn came to San Francisco with his wife Helen in order to get a better education. While living in California, he witnessed two Koreans fighting in the streets over sales turf. Ahn was apparently upset by this display of incivility among his countrymen overseas, and he began to invest time into reforming the local Korean diaspora, rising to become one of the first leaders of the Korean-American community.[1]He founded the Friendship Society in 1903, the first Korean organization in the continental United States. In 1906, he established the Mutual Assistance Society (MAS). MAS would eventually merge with the United Korean Society in Hawaii to become the Korean National Association (대한인국민회; 大韓人國民會), the official agent of Koreans in the United States until the end of World War II.[2]

Many consider Ahn Chang-ho to be one of the key moral and philosophical leaders of Korea during the 20th century. In the turmoil immediately before and during the Japanese occupation of Korea, he called for the moral and spiritual renewal of the Korean people through education as one of the important components in their struggle for independence.

In 1938, Japanese authorities arrested Ahn, but due to severe illness, he was released on bail and transferred to the Kyungsung University hospital where he died on March 101938. A memorial park (called 'Dosan Park'; Korean: 도산공원) and hall were built to honor him in Gangnam-guSeoul.[3] Another memorial was built in downtown RiversideCalifornia to honor him. Ahn's family home on 36th Place in Los Angeles has been restored by the University of Southern California, on whose campus it sits (albeit in a different location)[1]. The City of Los Angeles has also declared the nearby intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Van Buren Place to be "Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Square" in his honor[2]. The Taekwondo pattern Do-San was named after him.

A main freeway interchange in downtown Los Angeles where the 10 Freeway and 110 Freeway meet is named after Dosan Ahn Chang Ho.
