Dinorsaur, Jurupa Mountains Culteral Center, Riverside, CA

So I am driving, you know I do a lot of that.  And for some reason I am on the 60 heading east.  I don't normally use that part of the 60, but i was.  And all my life I can remember going to the Jurupa Culteral Center and I never noticed this Metal Dinosaur.  I think it was the clouds behind.  I loved the idea of the shot, but the out come did not look like I had wanted.  The clouds had a smoggy tinge and the dirty look to them was not something I can remove in photoshop.  I am love the idea of photoshop, but I tend to live in Aperature and shoot to stay there.  Masking and such is just too much.  I want to play with it, I just don't want to play with it.  I know that makes no sense, but if I was speaking the tone of that would have come through loud and clear.  Here are a few out takes.

Day 86, My Life Is On The Road

So this is my life. I pull a lot of windshield time.  Around an average of 3 to 4 hours a day.  I put the screws to my iPod, that is now an iPhone.  I knock through hours and hours of recorded books and talk radio.  I love my job, but the quantity of drive time really puts a dent in the satisfaction meter.  The hard part is that I am always in a hurry.  If I stop on my way out it infringes on amount of time I need to spend in my territory.  If I stop on my way home then it infringes on the time with the family.  So shooting the pics I see is not always an option.

Take the other day for an example.  The sun is pouring through a break in the clouds and it is gorgeous.  I wanted to pull over and frame up, but I thought it would be more interesting to shoot it how I get to see it, through the windshield.  A couple of weeks ago when the rain was breaking up for a short period, there were these beautiful rainbows,  I couldn't stop to take the pic.  I did shoot, but decided not to post so that no one would get the impression that I was a danger on the road.  Now I have set up a tripod in my car and left it up for the drive. It worked out well with this picture. In case you are worried, I have a cable release so I am not a danger.  I leave the zoom somewhat wide open and can crop and correct in iPhoto.  Then I just shoot.

The reality of this is that I will probably have a low quality pic to number of pics shot ratio.  But at least you will see more what I see.  Here are the out takes.  This time they are so much more of the same.

Day 85, Mt Rubidoux Shinning Through A Break in the Clouds

One of the big landmarks in Riverside is the cross on top of Mount Rubidoux. You can see it from a fair distance though out the downtown and Rubidoux areas. Amazingly enough, the ACLU has not sued us to take it down. It has been cold and raining in Southern California, not a common thing, for the last month. The hills are green and the area looks less like the desert that it was built out of. As I was coming out of Jury Duty on a lunch break, there was a break in the overcast clouds and the cross could be seen clearly from the courthouse. I got some lunch and found a place to eat. As I was sitting there, I thought, I really need to go and shoot Mt Rubidoux. Then, brilliant that I am, I thought, I guess I could shoot it now.

So here you have one of what will be at least a few over the next little while.  Also, one out take.  I went with the first because of the blue sky, the second however stands well on its own, the cross is bigger and the dark brooding quality of the clouds are interesting.
