As I was driving through Hemet to see some of my customers, I saw this old horse racing track in the middle of this neighborhood. It turns out to be more then an old track, but the old track and horse ranch of the Mr Big of Hemet, W.F. Whittier, who with his partner formed the Hemet Area through their creation of a water company and building the Hemet Dam. He had a passion for Horse Trotting Races and built this. Apparently he built this around 1907. The whole of the property is pretty run down and there are not any livestock operations any more. I shot it thinking it needed to be in Black and White. The rundown buildings were perfect for Black and White. There is a tenant in the house. The property was used for backdrops and the barn scenes in the move Seabiscuit. I couldn't resist asking if it was ok to take some shots. The out takes include the warehouse barn, the light for the outside of the warehouse barn, and the stables from the movie Seabiscuit. Tomorrow, since it was just becoming too big, I will post the grand stands, front entrance and the window to the blacksmith shop.
