I thought that this was really just a cool pic. there is nothing else to it other then that. I think that it is a bit of a juxtaposition to find something that seems peaceful like this at an amusement park. I took these at Knott's Berry Farm. It is just so not peaceful there and this seems to feel so peaceful.

So I love my camera. It is not the best in the world, but it is good, and it is what I could afford at the time. Now I am much more focused on good glass, which I really can't afford. So I am out for a walk during the jury duty thing, and it starts to rain. I hid in a doorway, not wanting to get my gear wet, and then I saw something that I have thought about shooting, but have never gotten around to, reflections in rain puddles. It was just right there, and I was not going to go anywhere until it stopped.

One of the great things about Southern California is the weather. So many folks out there just don't get it. Yes we have congested freeways, and our economy swings the U.S. In fact, on its own, the economy out here makes up the 8th largest in the world.
It has always amazed me how big and diverse California actually is. When you leave the L.A. area and head north on the 5, you see the agricultural backbone that we have. It is amazing all of the crops that grow here. Where I live in Riverside, Citrus was the crop that made the area. Our housing track was Orange Groves just 10 years ago. I drive through groves everyday. They smell great. Orange blossoms are one of my favorite smells.
Here it is, December 15th and I went for a ride on my Electra Townie with my kids and cut my grass. The temperature was 68 degrees and the day was beautiful. One of the parks by us had some trees just finally losing their leaves and the colors were great. I have always loved looking from the inside out of these trees. The backlight gives the leaves a great color. Salt Lake got up to 28 degrees and talking to my friend on the phone he said that there was about 9 inches of snow on the ground.
Southern California has great weather, and I love the year round activities here, hope you like the pictures.

On our way home from the big Thanksgiving bash with my family, we came down the 99 instead of the 5 so that we could stop by one of the newer little temples that the LDS church is building in an attempt to make temple worship easier. Our church has always build the temples as the great and grand buildings that they are. For us they offer the ordinances that are most key to our religion. When we are married in the temple, we are married forever, not until death do us part. I can imagine nothing that scares me more then the separation of my family after this life. So, we stop at temples with our family and take pictures in front of them as a fun way to discuss the real significance they hold in our religious life with our children. We have on our walls pictures of us in front of 8 temples now.
As we were leaving, the sun was just setting and it was overcast. The parking lot lights had just come on and the lights with the few rays of sun that were breaking through the clouds as we left seemed to make the leaves on this tree just sing. They were so vibrant. I just noticed them because I was trying to use them to frame up the Angel Moroni on the top of the temple, but it wasn't working. But these had such color, that I swapped lenses and took the picture. I love how vibrant they came out. I also posted below the Angel Moroni, which I converted to B&W due to the overcast day to make it pop. It did not work the way that I wanted.

OK, I did not shoot this today, or even yesterday. But I did shoot this during this month. I decided that I wanted to do a blog like this when I was at Zion National Park. I hiked the lower narrows and found this one little tree, all by itself on the narrows floor, with a black stone cliff that rose about 250 feet strait up in the air. I shot this in color and then converted to Black and White. The leaves were perfect for the switch since they were yellow and would make a stark contrast with the stone.
As I stared at this lonely tree, I thought, "I might be the only one that will ever take this picture. This could be my unique and different shot in a very well photographed place." Everyone photographs the big well known stone faces, but this little tree may not even be here next year if the rains leave enough water for it to wash away.
Then I thought, "I can not wait to put this on Flickr." But, it did not become the great shot that I thought that it was. When I posted it to some groups, there was a few nice comments, but it did not sweep the site and become the number one viewed picture. But I am quite pleased with it. I don't think that this picture has been done before. It is possible that there are some similar ideas, but this was mine alone.
This picture of this little tree alone against a big cliff started me to thinking how many more pictures could I take if I tried to shoot every day. And from that flowed a few ideas about what I would like to shoot. Doors, Trees, Benches, Cars, and eventually, portraits. I am not very good at portraits, but I will work on them. I always wanted to shoot some pics of the 3 guitars that I have. I have been seeing a lot of pictures that I want to take of Riverside, it really is a great place to live. My kids are really cute, and I meet some great people for my job. I would like to photograph them. So I started a blog. I am curious to see where this goes.
