Day 81, The City Orders You To Cease and Desist Growing.

I am still on Jury Duty. I will probably be on Jury Duty for the next two weeks. At Fairmont Park I took some pictures that I liked. I don't think this will shake up the photography world, but I like it. The tree, the cement and the city trying to tell the tree what to do. It is to me a juxtaposition of elements that I liked.

Day 80, They Can't Tell My Secret Identity With This Mask

So, as you may have noticed, I have not been writing much with the postings. Truth be told, I have been a little out of it. I am on a jury and it is really tough to listen to. I can't talk about it, but emotionally it is a tough thing to be a part of. During lunch I went and shot some more at Fairmont Park. There were all of these ducks and geese and other waterfowl. I couldn't help the chuckle from this muscovy duck that seemed to hang with these black scoter ducks. There was a grouping of muscovy ducks about 50 feet away. This bird didn't want anything to do with them. When they all settled down, he would huddle up with the black scoters.

Maybe he thinks that with his mask, they can't tell the difference.

I am sorry that the blog format cuts off the landscape size pictures.  I can not figure out how to change the layout to better accommodate the picture.  I think that I may be switching to a different blog hosting service to fix this.  Let me know if you have a recommendation for a blog service that lets you have a more customizable interface.  If you click on any of the pictures you will be taken to Flickr, and can see them in different sizes if you want.

I know that I could blog from the provider directly instead of from Flickr, but for management, and ability to stay ahead and blog from anywhere, Flickr solves a lot of problems for me.  I can get to the images anytime and blog from anywhere, even my iPhone.  I could always go back and replace the picture with a smaller version, but that is adding way too many steps.  I will go back to making the out takes smaller then the image of the day.

Day 67, The End, Pulled Groves, Corona, CA

This is becoming a common sight.  One of the beauties of where we live is that there are still a lot of Orange groves, or at least there were.  They are starting to meet this fate at a startling rate.  This is happening a lot lately.  Partly for land development, and partly for a disease that has hit some of these trees.  I will tell you, one of the smells that makes me think home is orange blossoms.  Growing up in Riverside, it is a part of my blood.  My mothers family grew oranges and lemons in the area.  I wish that I had some of the crate labels.  My daughter hears about it in elementary school as part of her history.  We live by a California State Park that celebrates the Citrus industry in the area.

It is hard to complain too loudly, our housing track was orange groves before they plowed it under to build houses.  But the striking image of the uprooted trees, in uniform rows does something on a deeper level.  I guess it is all of those years of hearing about the great citrus industry, it is hard to see it really gone.

Day 66, Stay Out, Corona, CA

There has been a lot of change in the area in the last few years.  When we moved here the shopping off of Cajalco was just up and running.  Across from the Crossings in Corona, as it is called, there was scrap metal facility, they are closed and gone with just the fence and the cement pad left.  I was told it was Imminent Domain.  But I can't confirm that.  Right by there was a grove of orange trees.  Tomorrow, I will post their fate.

Day 65, Grass Farm, Hemet, CA

As I was driving from the 60 to Hemet, I could not stop staring at the great view that I was seeing.  We have had some rain lately and it is beautiful.  Everything is so green.  I am going to try to get more pics of Riverside when it is green like now.  Then, this summer I will remember it when the temp is 105 and everything is brown.

Day 64, Dry Ground After the Rain

I thought that texture of this was outstanding I tried to get the shot with a little depth of field to add interest to the texture.  I would use if I had it, a lens baby.  But I have not wanted to spend the money on one, so I am careful about aperture and where I set the focus.  I generally am not a big fan of taking pics in the middle of the day, but the overcast day was helpful to eliminate some of the harsh light.

Day 64, Parking Lot Arrow, originally uploaded by solostandfound.
I don't know why I wanted to shoot this so much.  It seemed that I was a cool look, but now that I am posting it, not so much.  The texture of the pavement came out well, but I should have used a tripod to eliminate camera shake.  I also should have shot this in RAW, or done something to fix the white balance.  There is too much of a red cast to the light here.

Day 62, Disneyland Parking Structure Escalators

The best thing about parking on the roof is you get to ride one of the biggest escalators I have ever been on.  There may be bigger, I just don't know where in So Cal.  They really built them with a great visual look as well.  Not the standard Disney Theme, but something in a geometric pattern style.  At least that is how I see them.  Look closer next time, I think that at night they look the best.

Day 61, Disneyland Parking Structure

We got to park on the roof, and near the front.  I say that like I love to park at Disneyland.  I don't.  I really chafe when they are so controlling about parking.  I know all of the arguments about efficiency, but I just hate the huge control factor.  I never have done well with people controlling all my choices.  I am a jerk, I admit it.  But there was only one parking attendant, and I parked where I wanted, near the front rather then at the back of the lane that we were in.  It shouldn't matter, but it felt good to buck the system.  I am sure that your thinking, 'How could that be a big deal?'  Just try to park in a different spot next time you hit the House of Mouse.
