Day 29, Portraits at Church Christmas Party

It's Saturday night, and what have I got going? No not a concert. Not a trip to the theater. Not even going to see a movie. I am going to the church Christmas party. I was asked by the activities committee to take portraits. I am not very good at this yet, but it was a great chance to get better. I was excited to go. I was also a little nervous. What if I messed these up? Well, I figured you usually get what you pay for. And as I told one of my friends, "I'm free till I'm good."

It looks like I am still free since some of them did not come out very well. One family came out unsaveable in photoshop. As I went through them, it looked like they were all over exposed. I hooked up the camera to my laptop to keep a check on that, but it seems that I missed it just the same. That at least was an easy fix.

The best portraits were the kids, this was something fun for them. As I was setting up my gear, I wanted to take some test shots and my friend was watching with his kids. So I put them up on the stools and started shooting.

I was looking more for exposure and shadow then composure. But the little girl, she is really cute and the same age as my youngest, she has the most expressive face. We were playing and I was telling her to make monster faces. Her brother thought this was funny. Hence, the final shot. It came out as my favorite.

I have posted a few more of my favorites below along with the EXIF data for the picture today. As always, thanks for looking.

  3. That first one with the brother and sister is priceless. Perfect capture of how some kids hate to be manipulated.
